Active Tots Nature Play sessions at Camperdown Wildlife Centre got off to a fantastic start, with young explorers enjoying a rich mix of outdoor learning, creativity and hands-on animal experiences.

In the first week of the three-week block, the team welcomed 12 children and their parents, setting a positive tone for the programme.

The session brought together storytelling, nature play and close encounters with animals. Children began by listening to a story before getting creative, making enrichments for the zoo’s guinea pigs. A clear highlight followed as the group stepped into the enclosure to feed the guinea pigs up close, an experience that sparked excitement across the group.

The session continued with an obstacle course and an animal hunt around the zoo, encouraging movement, curiosity and discovery. To finish, each child planted wildflowers in egg boxes to take home and grow, adding a simple takeaway that extended the experience beyond the session.

Across the remaining sessions, activities continued to build on this strong start, giving children opportunities to explore, play and connect with nature in engaging and memorable ways.
