On Friday 25 September, Active Dundee's Development Team, in partnership with the Dundee Care Home Activity Network, hosted the annual Care Home & Day Care physical activity event, Go for Gold 2026.
This year's World Cup-themed event saw 58 care home residents come together at RPC Dundee to enjoy a fun and friendly programme of activities. Competitors took part in indoor kurling, chair football, indoor golf, keepie-ups, boccia, penalties, a football reminiscence quiz, cup pong and balloon tennis.
The event was held at RPC Dundee for the first time, with the accessible venue providing an ideal setting for the day's activities. Features including level access, automatic doors, a Changing Places toilet and a spacious sports hall helped ensure participants could take part comfortably and confidently.
In the lead-up to the event, care homes and day care services involved residents in designing and creating team flags and badges, helping build excitement ahead of the competition. Residents also had the opportunity to practise a range of activities before the big day.
After a day filled with physical activity, friendly competition and plenty of laughter, Oaklands Day Centre were crowned Go for Gold Champions 2026.
